Overview
Savi is a technology and information services company that provides real-time supply chain management and security solutions for commercial, defense and public sector markets worldwide. Started in 1989, Savi has emerged as a global leader in integrating Automatic Identification Technology (AIT) tracking systems, including Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), with sophisticated decision-support software, information systems, business processes and Information Technology architectures.
Savi is a wholly owned subsidiary of Lockheed Martin [NYSE: LMT], which acquired the company in 2006.
Since the mid-1990s, Savi has continued to help build for the U.S. Department of Defense the Radio Frequency In-Transit Visibility (RF-ITV) network, which is the largest AIT enabled cargo tracking system worldwide. RF-ITV networks built by Savi for defense forces worldwide extend across more than 40 countries in 4,000 locations, tracking over 35,000 shipments daily. The company also is the majority owner of Savi Networks, which is the premier solution for tracking the location, security and condition of commercial intermodal containers and their inventory from origin to destination.
Savi's mission is to provide a world-class, complementary set of AIT-enabled products and asset management software, system integration and program engineering, and on-demand supply chain information services that enable customers to optimize the utilization of assets and inventory in their supply chain operations.
Organization
Savi is organized into two lines of business and a joint venture that together make up the Savi Group, which also co-develops solutions with other Lockheed Martin divisions on large, complex government projects for ITV, cargo security and asset management. The Savi businesses include Savi Technology, Unified Logistics Systems and Savi Networks.
- Savi Technology provides an integrated suite of complementary Automatic Identification & Data Collection technology products and solutions that drive business value by reducing supply chain assets, inventory and operational costs for commercial enterprises, defense agencies and other government customers.
- Unified Logistics Systems is a Savi line of business that focuses on customized, decision-support logistics solutions that deliver situational awareness, in-transit and asset visibility, planning, collaboration and transportation optimization for large U.S. Department of Defense and other federal agency projects.
- Savi Networks is a joint venture between Savi, a Lockheed Martin [NYSE: LMT] company, and Hutchison Port Holdings. Savi Networks operates a global wireless data-capture network and provides a real-time information service called SaviTrak™ that automatically tracks the location, security and condition of inventory while it is transported throughout the global supply chain. SaviTrak provides effective decision-support to better manage inventory for the supply chain community, including commercial shippers, logistics service providers, freight forwarders and carriers.
