Products
Savi SmartChain® Solutions enable organizations to improve asset utilization through real-time tracking of movements and handlings via bar code, RFID, GPS and sensors. What is it? How is it? And who needs it when?
Savi's main differentiator is its solution-oriented approach and deep experience in developing, integrating and deploying the full stack of products to AIT-enable your organization.
Behind Savi SmartChain Solutions stands a suite of Savi's software and hardware products.
SmartChain Server Application
Each SmartChain Server Application runs on top of the web-based SmartChain Platform and constitutes a packaged set of reports, alerts and business logic that aims to solve a specific business problem. For example, the SmartChain Asset Management Application (AMA) was built to help organizations know where their assets are and how they can better utilize them. Other SmartChain Server Applications include SmartChain Shipment Management Application (SMA), which helps organizations know where their shipments are and how they can run more efficient supply chains, and SmartChain Consignment Management Application (CMA), which is similar to SmartChain SMA, but which focuses on international military operations by supporting certain NATO STANAG standards and MH-10.
SmartChain Platform
The SmartChain Platform is a web-based software product that has the glue and the business intelligence to AIT-enable your organization. The defining services offered by the SmartChain Platform are:
- Automated Data Capture & Network Management... provides the foundation for real-time updates
- Alerts & Notifications... creates the opportunity for real-time decisions
- Process Management & Execution... supplies SmartChain's core business intelligence
- Integration & Reporting... facilitates the exchange of data with other enterprise systems and third party reporting tools
SmartChain Site Manager
SmartChain Site Manager is middleware software for managing RFID devices and collecting RFID data. Site Manager also supports custom business logic, data filtering and local business processing.
SmartChain Edge Applications
The SmartChain Edge Applications include the SmartChain Mobile and SmartChain Workstation products. These edge software applications were built for handling AIT assets and shipments on ruggedized mobile devices and workstation PCs. Both software applications share an intuitive, task-based menu structure with user interfaces tailored to AIT-enabled logistics business processes.
Savi RFID Infrastructure
Savi RFID Infrastructure includes two classifications of products, Fixed RFID Infrastructure and Mobile RFID Systems.
Savi's Fixed RFID Infrastructure consists of Savi Readers, Savi Signposts and Savi Signpost-Readers.
- Savi Readers perform RFID collections at fixed locations throughout supply chains and in warehouses.
- Savi Signposts trigger RFID tags to report their precise location up to the Savi Readers. (For more information on how these technologies work together, see LF Frequency.) Savi offers short-, medium- and long-range signposts, which all have different and adjustable spatial ranges in which they can trigger an RFID tag.
- Savi Signpost-Readers work just like the Savi Signposts, and they are sold in a similar manner with options for short-, medium- and long-range tag wake-up fields. The difference between a Signpost and a Signpost-Reader is that the Signpost-Reader comes with an embedded Savi Reader, which eases deployments since a separate Savi Reader device is no longer required.
Savi's Mobile RFID Systems are bundled as kitted units that can be easily transported to support mobile operations. Savi's Mobile RFID Systems include:
- The Savi Mobile Reader (SMR) performs similar functions as the Savi Fixed Reader, except that the SMR is designed to connect directly with mobile devices and workstations.
- The Savi Handheld Reader Kit packages together a ruggedized handheld device with an SMR and the SmartChain Mobile edge software application. This kit serves as a great way to get up and running quickly with AIT tagged assets and shipments.
- Savi Transit Case Groups (TCGs) are ruggedized, reusable and waterproof. The hardened transit case designs protect RFID equipment from all forms of water (rain, seawater, humidity, fog, etc.) and also from damage if the case is dropped during loading and unloading, or exposed to harsh vibration while being transported over unpaved roads.
- The Savi Portable Deployment Kit (PDK) is a special type of TCG that provides a complete active RFID solution that is operational out of the box. Key components of the PDK include a laptop, a mobile device, a mobile reader, a printer, the software and the communications equipment.
- The Savi Early Entry Deployment Support Kit (EEDSK) is a special type of TCG that includes the PDK plus additional RFID infrastructure equipment necessary for setting up a standalone temporary chokepoint.
SaviTags
SaviTags offer a family of ruggedized RFID tags that include the General Asset Tags, Data Rich Tags and SensorTags.
General Asset Tags are Savi's standard RFID tags which are offered at a lower price point than the Data Rich Tags and Sensor Tags. General Asset Tags are appropriate for installing on large asset fleets where the tag is effectively serving as a license plate identification for the attached asset or shipment.
Data Rich Tags are like Savi's General Asset Tags but come with much more memory. Data Rich Tags are appropriate for attaching to shipments on which you would want to store manifest data.
Sensor Tags are like Savi's Data Rich Tags but come with built-in sensors such as temperature, humidity, shock, light and door. Sensor Tags are appropriate for attaching to assets and shipments that might have sensitive cargo that could be subject to tampering or spoilage.

"The capability to see timely and accurate movement information is a major enabler for strategic deployments, operational sustainment and intra-theater movement. Compliance with this RFID tagging policy is absolutely essential — no other existing system provides the necessary visibility or level of detail. RFID is the only tool that allows CFLCC (Coalition Forces Land Component Command) to identify critical cargo, locate it, and anticipate its arrival. The technology is proven, widespread and is positively required for CFLCC operations."
