Savi Networks is majority owned and operated by Savi Technology. Combining the technical experience of Savi Technology and the global port experience of Hutchison Port Holdings, these two leading companies in their fields are collaborating to provide shippers with a comprehensive, real-time information system about their container and cargo status - from source-to-destination.

Savi Networks

A Shared Network Approach for Supply Chain Visibility

The complex and dynamic nature of the supply chain makes it challenging to track and manage the flow of shipments and supply chain assets in an accurate and timely manner. Shippers must gather information from a diverse and changing set of partners that have different data gathering and transmission systems, many of which result in information that is limited, non-normalized, error ridden, out-of-sequence, and/or too late to act upon. Failure to achieve complete, real-time visibility of their global supply chain is likely to have a direct impact on a company's bottom line.

Savi Networks provides its customers with greater visibility and status information of both their container shipments and the contents they transport. Savi Networks builds global shared networks by installing an active RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) networks in ports around the world to provide cargo owners and their designated service providers with information on the identity and location, identity, location and security status, or identity, location, security status, and environmental information of their ocean cargo containers as they pass through such ports. Shippers, logistics service providers and transportation companies will be able to connect to the network by installing compatible equipment at their own locations, and they will be able to receive data automatically from the shared network to further improve the effectiveness and security of global supply chains.

Proving the value of a shared network approach:

One of the world's five largest shippers deployed a global RFID network in conjunction with Savi Technology and similar to those deployed by Savi Networks and saved over $200 million in supply chain costs by:

  • Reducing lead-time and variability
  • Minimizing pipeline inventory and safety stock
  • Driving down out-of-stocks
  • Cutting labor requirements
  • Minimizing the cost of supply chain IT systems

The same network technology, which was previously only available to a select few, is now available to the broader commercial world. Savi Networks is deploying the first and only commercially available, global supply chain management network that is characterized by:

  • 100% accurate, rich data
  • Automated data capture
  • Lowest total cost of ownership
  • Easy and inexpensive connectivity
  • Real-time data access to the location, environmental, and security status of goods down to the SKU level
  • Management by exception

The Shared Network:

Savi Networks owns and operates the network's core infrastructure and will provide information services called SaviTrak™ to the cargo owner and their service providers on a per-container trip basis.

To monitor and secure the shipping containers, Savi Networks offers customers a variety of active RFID devices that can communicate with the network. These devices are affixed to containers, or built into containers, and customers will receive information on location, security and environmental conditions, such as temperature, humidity and light, as well as the container's contents.

All of this automated information can be viewed via the SaviTrak™ system, a web-based application that provides comprehensive, real-time information from source-to-destination about container and cargo status including location, condition of contents (humidity, temperature, etc.), and security of the shipment. Shippers receive real-time alert notifications if a shipment has been misdirected, has not arrived at a designated location, or has been physically tampered. With an open, standards based infrastructure that seamlessly integrates with existing enterprise systems, all trading partners can exchange data in a common format.

Key Features Include:

  • Automated track-and-trace web-based visibility
  • Data feeds for integration with enterprise systems
  • Supply chain measurements and analytics
  • Alert notifications for abnormal conditions
  • Tamper alerts and audit trails for loss liability
  • Chain of custody control at key supply chain hand-offs
  • Interoperability with enterprise systems
  • Inventory optimization
