Savi Technology's Nested Visibility™

Savi's Nested Visibility provides complete, real-time visibility of products to the item-level, as well as the cartons, assets and vehicles that transport them. Savi’s Nested Visibility integrates information from varying AIDC technologies, across the different nested levels, enabling true item and shipment level visibility across the supply chain. As a result, companies gain a higher level of supply chain visibility to improve operations, reduce inventory, and minimize damaged and lost shipments.

Savi’s solution begins as the barcodes and passive tags are read using a handheld reader, with this detailed information seamlessly transferred to the Savi SmartChain Site Manager software using Universal Data Appliance Protocol (UDAP), which enables virtually any data collection device to be connected to the Savi SmartChain Enterprise Platform and SmartChain Applications.  The Savi SmartChain Enterprise Platform's network management functionality allows enterprises to manage RFID and AIDC networks from a central location. The item cases and pallets are then placed in a larger shipping container (such as an intermodal container), with their specific information collected by the handheld and directly stored on an active RFID tag on the container, or  as a manifest in the SmartChain Enterprise Platform, and associated to the active RFID tag.

As the container moves from one location to another during the shipping process, real-time RFID readers identify the location and status of the container and its contents. If the container is transported on a truck, train or ship using GPS technology, the GPS coordinates can be collected using UDAP, and the location of the vehicle, and therefore the container and its contents, can be tracked as the vehicle moves between locations within the extended, multi-enterprise supply chain. The flexibility provided by Savi's solution allows for Nested Visibility at many different levels, depending on specific operational requirements.
