Savi Submits Comprehensive Response To $200 Million U.S. Department Of Defense RFID-IV Solicitation

Technology Innovator and Patent Holder Fields Strongest Team in 15-Year History of DoD RFID Contract Vehicles

ALEXANDRIA, VA (October 30, 2013) – Savi Technology, the largest provider of active Radio Frequency Identification (aRFID) technology to the United States Department of Defense (U.S. DoD) has responded to be a prime contractor to the U.S. DoD $204 million aRFID-IV proposal (RFP No. W52P1J-13-R-0050). RFID-IV follows RFID-III which expires this December and will provide a state-of-the-art, common, integrated structure for logistic tracking, locating, and monitoring of assets and commodities of the DoD, U.S. Coast Guard (USCG), NATO, Coalition Partners, and other U.S. Government federal agencies. Savi was selected as a prime for the RFID-I, -II, and –III contracts, and is the only company to respond as a prime on all four proposals.

In addition to Savi RFID tags, readers and Savi SmartChain software, Savi is joined in their proposal by a number of world-class technology and services providers that have the capabilities necessary to successfully deliver, deploy, and support in some of the most challenging environments. Companies in Savi’s response include:

  • Evanhoe & Associates: As a full-service IT Solutions provider, Evanhoe provides a broad spectrum of automatic identification and data capture (AIDC) expertise, systems integration and custom software development. Evanhoe is an ISO 9001:2008 Certified and Registered; VA certified (CVE) Service-Disabled, Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB); and SBA Certified 8(a) Small Disadvantaged Business (SDB).

“We recently implemented an RFID solution at several US Air Force Air Mobility Command locations to facilitate automated cargo handling using Savi technology,” said Chuck Evanhoe, President of Evanhoe & Associates. “We are excited to continue our partnership with Savi to provide similar, innovative and state-of-the-art solutions to the DoD.”

  • IDENTEC: IDENTEC has pioneered the development of Intelligent Long Range® (ILR®) active RFID technology in the 868 MHz and 915 MHz frequency bands that is used in the maritime, oil & gas, and industrial sectors. Provides ISO 18000-7 compliant RFID hardware products that are interoperable with Savi solutions and customer support.

“Savi has built a powerful team for the RFID IV response and we at IDENTEC are pleased to be a part of this team,” said Brian Robertson, CEO of IDENTEC SOLUTIONS AG. “We look forward to supporting Savi, the DoD, the other U.S. government agencies, NATO and their allies with our portfolio of robust RFID hardware.”

  • Orbcomm: A global provider of Machine-to-Machine (M2M) solutions providing satellite communications (SATCOM) products and services to support advanced location-based monitoring applications.

“Our GlobalTrak subsidiary has been a leading provider of military Enhanced-In-Transit-Visibility (EITV) solutions to the government market since 2008. By combining our strengths with Savi, we bring proven industry and technological expertise to the RFID IV proposal,” said Marc Eisenberg, chief executive officer, ORBCOMM Inc. “We plan to leverage our strategic relationship with Savi and the synergy of our blended technologies to develop industry-leading tracking and monitoring solutions and logistics support for high-value assets within both the government and commercial markets.”

  • Ubisense: A market leader of location-based smart technology which enables companies to optimize their business processes. Ubisense Real Time Location Intelligence Solutions are used by a large number of blue chip customers across the world, such as Airbus, Aston Martin, BMW, Cablevision, Daimler, Eurocopter and AGCO. By keeping track of key assets, Ubisense solutions bring clarity to complex operations while also improving quality and reliability. Ubisense and Savi offer best in class solutions that, when combined, will provide the benefits enjoyed by Ubisense’s manufacturing customers to the military supply chain.

Also participating in the Savi RFID-IV response are Intermec, now part of Honeywell Scanning & Mobility, with its mobile RFID handheld computers and readers; and Northrop Grumman. Northrop Grumman, a leading global provider of advanced solutions, will be providing RFID
technical engineering services, integration, and training services.

“Savi Technology has assembled a team of world-class leaders in the field of RFID tracking,” said Rick Morgan, editor, SCAN: The DATA CAPTURE Report. “Virtually every member brings extreme value to the table. Savi’s long history of serving the government/DoD will make this group a strong contender for the upcoming U.S. DoD $204 million RFID-IV proposal.”

Savi’s patented intellectual property is the basis for several of the products required under the RFID-IV solicitation. Providers that want to offer these required products must license Savi’s ISO 18000-7 patents in order to comply, just as providers did under RFID III. Savi makes these available on a “reasonable and non-discriminatory” (RAND) basis, as stated in the government solicitation and the Q&A that accompanied it.

“The state-of-the-art in tracking and monitoring high-value assets has continued to evolve and progress over the course of each of the DoD’s RFID contracts,” said Bill Clark, president and chief executive officer, Savi Technology. “RFID IV will further extend the capabilities of these technologies, and we are excited to bring both Savi and our partners’ latest innovations to bear on the increasingly complex world of military logistics.”
